New President of SG 4-L Foundation
Director Lydia Barrow-Hankins has been elected as the new president of Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation. At the regular May meeting of the Board of Directors, Leroy Seat, the founder of the 4-L Foundation who has served as the president since its beginning in 2004, said he was not available for re-election. (He gave his upcoming 80th birthday as the reason for standing down.)
Director Barrow-Hankins, who has served on the Board from the beginning, retired from her position as Chaplain of Seinan Gakuin in April and returned to the U.S. earlier this month. She and her husband, Ron, will move to Costa Rica later this year.
Associate Akane Forbess Begins Second Year
Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation Associate Akane Forbess began her second year of service at the beginning of the new academic year in April. She is the first Associate to choose to travel back to the States between the academic years rather than over the winter holidays. She began her new one-year term of service soon after arriving back in Fukuoka from her home in Arkansas, the airline tickets provided by the 4-L Foundation.
Please continue to pray for Associate Akane as she carries out her teaching and Christian witnessing responsibilities/opportunities in the months ahead.

Thank You to Our Recent Donors
Since the publication of the previous newsletter (No. 53 in July 2017), the Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation has received two donations. We express our gratitude to Ms. Sumiko Nagasawa of Kurume City, Japan, and to Director Ken’ichi Takara for their generous support.
Introducing the New Chaplain of Seinan Gakuin
Ms. Bunchiku Ryū is the new Chaplain at Seinan Gakuin. She was elected by the Trustees of Seinan Gakuin to take up the work of Rev. Lydia Barrow-Hankins, who retired at the end of the academic year that ended in March. Chaplain Ryū, from China, graduated from the Department of Theology of Seinan Gakuin University and then went to Singapore where she completed a graduate degree in theology.
Chaplain Ryū was serving as Assistant Pastor of the Hiroshima Baptist Church when she accepted her new position at Seinan Gakuin.
A Word of Appreciation
Leroy Seat, founder and president of Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation until earlier this month, takes this means to express his gratitude to all who have supported the work of the 4-L Foundation since its beginning in 2004. In addition to the many donors who have given generously through the years, he also expresses appreciation to all the present Directors, most of whom have served from the beginning (or soon after its beginning) as well as to former directors: the late Dr. Gerald Fielder, Dr. Yoshiki Terazono, and Dr. Hershel Johnson.
