Associate Berger Extends for Third Year
Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation Associate Erik Berger’s request for a third year of service was approved by the Board of Directors last fall. That entitled him to a trip to the U.S. over the winter holidays at 4-L Foundation expense. He is now back in Fukuoka finishing up the last months of his second term and is set to begin his third and final year of service in April.
Recommendations for a New Associate?
Since this will be Associate Erik’s final year, the Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation is looking for a suitable person to be his successor. The Board of Directors would like to appoint a new Associate by October at the latest, so recommendations are needed right away. If you know of someone who might be interested in filling this position and seems qualified to do so, please have them contact the president or one of the board members.
Thanks to Donors
The Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation is grateful to those who support its work through financial gifts. Since the last newsletter, donations of $740 have been received by the treasurer. Those gifts are from Charles Cantrell, Joy Fenner, Hugh Young, and the Missouri WMU (via Leroy and June Seat).
Chancellor Barkley Elected to Second Term
Seinan Gakuin Chancellor Gary Barkley, who is also a Seinan Gakuin 4-L Foundation director, has been elected to a second four-year term. His new term as Chancellor will begin on April 1 and last until March 31, 2020.
Entrance Examinations
Each year one of the most important, and most stressful, times at schools in Japan is the entrance exam period. This year entrance exams at Seinan Gakuin University will be given on February 4-9 (excluding Sunday). Please pray that all will go well and that the desired number of students will be acquired for the new academic year.

Centennial Celebration
It is now less than four months until the 100th anniversary celebration of the founding of Seinan Gakuin. The climax of the months of preparation, and preliminary events, will be the on-campus activities on May 13 and the open-to-the- public celebration on May 14.
New Construction at Seinan Gakuin
Over the past many months the new university library has been under construction on the site of the old administration building. The new library is scheduled to be ready for use by the beginning of the new academic year in April 2017.
Another new building is also currently being built. It is Centennial Hall (Hyakunenkan), which will also be known as Shoryokukan (Green Pine Hall). It is scheduled for completion on March 18 of this year.
Centennial Logo
The primary logo mark for this centennial year is shown below. The Japanese words say “From a grain of wheat, toward the next hundred years.”
